Connecticut Science Center Collaborative

The Connecticut Science Center Collaborative (CTSCC) is a group of science centers, institutions, researchers and scientists in Connecticut concerned about global warming and committed to educating the public about its science, impacts and solutions.

The initiative, begun in 2004 by CA-CP in cooperation with the Connecticut DEP’s Climate Change Initiative, with funding from the Tremaine Foundation, aims to combine the latest scientific findings of research and academic institutions with
the interpretive expertise of science centers in developing exhibits, educational programs, and outreach projects for more than 2.5 million residents and visitors to the state’s science centers and museums.

The New England Science Center Collaborative provided the model (partnering with CA-CP and CT DEP in CTSCC development), as an organization working throughout the region to inform the public about global warming by relating its impacts to places people live and care about, and providing resources on how to reduce production of the greenhouse gases that cause global warming.

Members include many of the science centers in the state, the Connecticut Science Teachers Association, the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund, the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection and the Institute for Sustainable Energy at Eastern Connecticut State University.

So far there have been three major Collaborative events:

In March 2005 the Collaborative’s held a “Meet the Scientists” forum: Global Warming Indicators and Coastal Impacts in Connecticut.

In October 2004 the CTSCC met at the Peabody Museum of Natural History and heard from climate science experts from Yale. Learn more about what was presented there.

In February 2004 CA-CP and NESCC hosted the gathering at which the plan to develop the Connecticut Collaborative was established. Get the story.
