NY Climate Consortium

Friday, Sept. 19th ; Syracuse, NY
Clean Air-Cool Planet is pleased to be partnering with SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (SUNY-ESF) and the New York State Energy Research & Development Authority (NYSERDA) to co-sponsor a one-day meeting at SUNY-ESF on Friday, Sept. 19th to explore the feasibility of creating a statewide Energy Conservation-Global Warming Consortium.

The meeting is expected to attract around 75 academic and institutional staff, state agency, and NGO representatives. Presentations and discussion will cover ongoing research activity related to energy and global warming, the state of curriculums on those topics at the secondary school and undergraduate levels and in community related programs, as well as energy extension/institutional practice programs, with input from state agencies, NGO’s and representatives of leading campuses. Race to Stop Global Warming

Race logoThe Race is an innovative response to the critically important challenge of increasing climate change education and awareness with a USTAF-certified and chip timed 8k run and a 5k fitness walk plus a free Children's fun run, toddler trot and diaper dash. Proceeds go to Greenhouse Network (http://www.greenhousenet.org), whose mission is to unite business, government, students and citizens in the effort to stabilize the climate.

NEW this year, local groups can raise money for their own environmental, educational or social justice group via pledges (click on "Help your organization" on the RTSGW website for more information). Form a team of 2 or more!

Climate Change and Horticulture Symposium

This symposium will be the first of its kind to focus on implications of climate change and increasing atmospheric carbon dioxide for the important fruit, vegetable, and ornamental horticulture industries. The meeting will bring together climate scientists, horticultural researchers, Extension educators, and representatives from public gardens, environmental and gardening groups, and horticultural businesses. Invited speakers include leading authorities on climate change, plant responses to greenhouse gases and climate, and development of educational and “citizen science” programs.

Bioneers Northeast: Revolution from the Heart of Nature

Bioneers Northeast will educate, inspire and equip participants with practical solutions for our most pressing environmental and social challenges. This conference welcomes all citizens, including professionals and students, to focus on issues of sustainability such as climate protection, biodiversity, food systems and culture. Programming will include a Sustainability Fair, local workshops, and a daily satellite telecast of keynote presenters from the 14th annual Bioneers conference in San Rafael California (www.bioneers.org). Informal activities include a "Bioneers Cafe", Resource room, Saturday night reception, and Sunday field trips.

Daily admission cost is $12 for students and $25 non-students (student scholarships are available). Walk and Witness for Climate and Creation

November 12th, New York City; Organized by Religious Witness for the Earth
Gather with others for “an interfaith service of repentance and renewal,” at the United Nations in New York on November 12. To be held in the context of U.S. rejection of the Kyoto Protocol and continued place as the world’s most prolific emitter of climate-altering greenhouse gases, the service will aim to “ask the world for forgiveness…call upon the United States to rejoin the community of nations seeking solutions…visit diplomatic missions of the nations most affected...and rededicate [participants] to faithful stewardship of the earth.” To participate or to get more information, contact Kate Stevens at songline50@aol.com.
