Mount Holyoke College Overview Mount Holyoke College began working with Clean Air - Cool Planet in fall 2003. Mount Holyoke, founded in 1837, is the oldest women's college in the nation. about 2,000 students, about the same number of faculty/staff. Acres of campus? lots of it is forest. Mount Holyoke's environmental affairs are facilitated by the Center for Environmental Literacy (CEL) which has faculty, staff and student, members. The core mission of the CEL is to engage all members of the College in the creation and maintenance of an environmentally sustainable college community. The CEL accomplishes this mission by promoting, organizing, and facilitating programmatic, campus-wide and community-based initiatives. The goal of these initiatives is to: encourage discussions among individuals; increase environmental content of departmental and interdisciplinary majors; engage members of the College in environmental activities on campus and in surrounding communities; and develop a long-term strategic plan for an environmentally sound campus.
