The United States Global Change Research Program releases 2009 report on US impacts

usp coverThe Global Change Research Act (GCRA) of 1990 mandates that every four years an assessment of the impacts of global change in the U.S. be conducted by the U.S. Global Change Research Program (USGCRP). The 2009 report, released June 16th, summarizes the science and the impacts of climate change on the United States, now and in the future. Written in plain English, the report explains both the large-scale and subtle changes in weather, wildlife, drought patterns and agriculture in the U.S. Read more..

Agricultural fires linked to
Arctic warming

A new report by the Clean Air Task Force detailing the role of agricultural burning in generating black carbon pollution in the Arctic has been released.  The report is the first compilation of research on the origins and means of deposition in the region, according to Ellen Baum, senior scientist of the Clean Air Task Force, Clean Air-Cool Planet’s partner in work to reduce the short-lived forcers black carbon, methane, and ozone. Science & Policy Background

Climate Impacts in the Northeast

A report published by the Union of Concerned Scientists documents current impacts of climate change on our region and examines future impacts under two different scenarios. This is the most comprehensive look at what climate change means "close to home" since the Northeast Regional Assesment five years ago. Download the report.

Symposium Examines Climate Change

CA-CP's Adam Markham joined many prominent speakers at the New York Botanical Garden Climate Change: Prospects for Nature symposium. You can read what fellow presenters - including Al Gore, Bill McKibben, UNH's Cameron Wake and Cornell's David Wolfe - had to say in this press release, or check out the webcast.

"Too Hot Not to Handle"

This documentary, featuring interviews with top climate scientists as well as some analysis of solutions, first aired on HBO on Earth Day and is available (free) for educators by request. Check it out.
