Clean Air-Cool Planet is the Northeast's leading nonprofit organization dedicated to finding and promoting solutions to global warming.

Global Warming: Science and Policy

At Clean Air-Cool Planet, our work is a combination of educating people and institutions about the problem of climate change and collaborating with them on solutions.

CA-CP In Action

Climate Change and Working Forests

In March, CA-CP has teamed up with the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests to offer a forestry conference that drew over 300 attendees and featured former governor George Pataki; NH State Forester, Phil Bryce; UNH's Vice President for Research, John Aber; Climate Policy Center chair Rafe Pomerance; and more.

See the agenda.

Tracking Change

Records of physical and biological seasonal events (e.g. ice-out, lilac bloom, snowfall and snow cover) point to changes already evident in the Northeast.

Growing in a Warming World

CA-CP is working with Cornell University, the Tellus Institute and others to explore and address the impact of global warming on farming and horticulture in the Northeast. There is a new website available to agricultural extension agents and others looking for information on agriculture and farming: www.climateandfarming.org

Arctic Sea IceMelting sea ice Thinner and Younger

2007 was the year that broke the record for the least amount of sea ice in the arctic, but according to scientists, the ice cover during the summer of 2008 shows signs that the ice is younger and thinner than ever before. Read the article...

Science & Policy Background

Climate Impacts in the Northeast

A report published by the Union of Concerned Scientists documents current impacts of climate change on our region and examines future impacts under two different scenarios. This is the most comprehensive look at what climate change means "close to home" since the Northeast Regional Assesment five years ago. Download the report.

Symposium Examines Climate Change

CA-CP's Adam Markham joined many prominent speakers at the New York Botanical Garden Climate Change: Prospects for Nature symposium. You can read what fellow presenters - including Al Gore, Bill McKibben, UNH's Cameron Wake and Cornell's David Wolfe - had to say in this press release, or check out the webcast.

"Too Hot Not to Handle"

This documentary, featuring interviews with top climate scientists as well as some analysis of solutions, first aired on HBO on Earth Day and is available (free) for educators by request. Check it out.

Northeast Leading the Fight Against Climate Change

In August 2001 the landmark New England Governors’ and Eastern Canadian Premiers’ Regional Climate Change Action Plan – the first regional climate change plan in the nation - was signed, and it’ s now being implemented.

What’s in the Plan, and what do it and the new Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) mean for the Northeast? Learn more...

Clean Energy Incentives

An increasing number of new policies and programs support renewable energy and conservation. A resource to help you learn what grants or tax credits your project might qualify for: the EPA's guide to state and local clean energy programs.
