Through generous support from The Overbrook Foundation, Community Catalyst Fund grants are available to groups in New York, New Jersey and the six New England states working to improve local environmental sustainability and energy efficiency. To be eligible, an applying organization must have an annual budget of less than $150,000, and the project in question must serve at least one community of fewer than 25,000 permanent residents. (Note that, in 2012, we are also able to make grants to communities of any size in Westchester County, New York, through a generous grant from the Westchester Community Foundation!) We're interested in funding projects that will promote environmental sustainability, improve environmental stewardship, and/or decrease consumption of energy and fossil fuels on a local level. These might include (but are by no means limited to) hiring interns to conduct energy inventories or create community action plans; implementing recycling programs; sponsoring speaker events; developing websites and/or educational materials. We are unable to fund: individuals; projects or programs promoting religious or ideological doctrine; political lobbying; projects supporting or opposing specific power, waste or other facilities; land, site acquisition, equipment purchase or facilities construction; institutions that discriminate on the basis of race, creed, age, sexual preference or gender; or grant-making to other organizations or individuals. Grants in this program will range in size from $250 to $2,500. There are no deadlines for grant submission, and we will review proposals on a rolling basis. We will endeavor to respond to all requests within 30 days of receipt. Successful applicants will be asked to submit a short grant report (250-500 words) to be posted to Clean Air-Cool Planet's blog site once their project has been completed or Community Catalyst Fund grant monies have been spent. Before you begin your application, please review our Frequently Asked Questions. If you have additional questions, you can email asayut@cleanair-coolplanet.org.
