RefrigerantsCFC's, once the most common refrigerant, are being phased out under the Montreal Protocol - hence you will likely find little need to deal with them in your Campus Climate Action Plan. Their most common replacements, HFC's (hydrofluorocarbons), are very long-lived and potent greenhouse gases, however, so addressing their use in campus air-conditioning and refrigeration units may be a small but significant element of your Plan. Since most refrigerants and other such climate-disruptive chemicals (e.g. Perfluorocarbons [PFCs], SF 6 ) are, like HFC's, monitored under federal guidelines, protocols for appropriate capture of these substances are likely built in to campus operations. You can work with your campus Facilities Manager or Plant Director to make sure such measures are in place.
