TransportationTransportation is yet another category of emissions that often makes up a sizable contribution to the GHG footprint captured in a campus inventory. Thus, part of developing a climate action plan is finding ways to reduce the emissions associated with transportation on your campus. Transportation emissions can be difficult to reduce because typically doing so involves dealing with at least four different sets of transportation needs: those of the campus fleet, staff and faculty commuters, students, and extracurricular programs (e.g. athletics). With so many stakeholders involved and, often, many logistical issues hinging on the policies in place, reducing emissions from these sources requires “systems” thinking and long-term planning. |
